Reading "Natsume Book of Friends" recently and find this comic very heartwarming
Remembering the trip to Bangkok for Asian Science Camp 2015
a fruitful and inspiring trip right before my semester started
Feeling like posting a write up of my new friends that I got to know in this year to preserve our friendships
What I write here may not be similar as what your usual friends think/say of you but
just treat it as another view from a new friend ^_^

Thank you for being part of my younger days. (Our Times, 2015)

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. (Proverbs 27:17, NLT)

Malaysian Buddies

Woody
Malaysia team (Azidah, Adam, Hadi, Ikhmal, Hisham)
Hello all!!! It had been a nice encounter with you guys!
(Sorry I had to use English because all my SPM BM all hilang sudah, dah lama tak guna BM untuk communicate...>.<)
I remember how awkward it was when both the government uni team and our Chinese school team were introduced separately, I'm sure there were some people who asked you guys "Why?"
but yeah....miscommunication between the organizers :/
But I did enjoy the part when we prepared for the performance and sang 1Malaysia together in front of the other nationals
all the OohhOhhOhh and pusing kepala HAHAHA!!!
(and plus all those gossips and jokes which only Malaysians understand we all talked together)
You guys had been really friendly and nice
All the best for your studies ya ^^
and ya, Azidah nice to have you as our roommate and dining together during breakfast
you are really a gentle and polite person
(and thanks for your bun HAHA *nom*)

Hello sweetheart!!!

The Jap and Korean Pals
Kana
It's really a pleasure for me to have met you through this camp
You are such a friendly, warm and sweet girl
I feel that compared to most Japanese you are more outspoken
perhaps it's because you grew up in US
it was a cute conversation between us (including the Taiwanese and PRC Chinese), to try communicate using kanji (or 汉字)
I look forward to your visit to Singapore or Malaysia
and I'll definitely find you if I have the chance to go Japan (I have to start saving for my trip now HAHA)
o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ
Tony, Damhyeon
Feeling happy seeing y'all
And thanks Tony being so polite and cooperative calling me "noona" HAHAHA
Damhyeon I remember you as a cheerful girl
Let's meet up if I go Korea in the future
Same if y'all come over to Singapore/Malaysia ^^

My fellow group members (with special thanks to Suttinun)
Dear Nun, thanks for being such a nice leader for our group!
Besides being nice and friendly, you also made sure that none of us got lost during the trip to Ayuthaya
You are such a gentle and caring person, and you successfully made all of us feel at home for the 1-week-long camp
All the best for your university life, and be happy and healthy always. ^^
And, thanks for your souvenir and bookmark, I like it a lot :)
Poster buddies: Nut & Hamna & YiShuan & YangYang
Hey!!! Nice to have know both of you through this group in ASC
Nut: Wow your photography skills are not bad! I enjoy seeing your pictures on FB
It's been nice to have you in our group, although your ideas were not included in the poster
but we really appreciate your efforts and outputs, the idea of the lizard and fibres is really creative ^^
Enjoy your life in college!!! And may your journey in science be wonderful!!!
Hamna: Such a sweet and nice girl!!!
Same as me who took the first flight in our lives to attend this camp
Thanks for your help drawing the poster
If it weren't you and YiShuan, I have no idea how we were going to draw it
Take care and all the best for your student life :)

LiDao(对不起忘了你的中文名...)
Terisa & Emre & Phat
Hello all!!!
Thanks Terisa for being so sweet bringing your coins for us as souvenirs
That is really a nice and thoughtful gift
I can see your enthusiasm, hope that your journey in further studies would be smooth!
but at the moment, focus and work hard on your high school studies, they are very important basic knowledge! ^_^
Hey Emre! Thanks for giving us the warmth from Turkey!
Heard from you how hard the journey from your hometown to Thailand was
Glad to have known you in the group
Hope to see you again!
Hi Phat! Another photography people in our group haha ^^
Saw you as a very happy person
you really showed us the smile from Thailand
I believe that you are a good student and
I also wish that you will continue to do good in college/university

Our Dear Roomie Gwen
Hey Gwen
Seeing you doing homework in the room after the whole-day-long program
I was like OMG
So much sacrifice attending ASC that you need to forsake your lessons and need to put in more effort to catch up
Feel that you are slightly reserved
(maybe just that you are not that "rah-rah" kind of person)
Hope that ASC has been a good experience for you
and hope that everything is fine in your JC life
All the best!!!

Yueqian's Book of Friends 2015 (#1stAUS2015 + ASEAN PowerShift Edition)

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. (Proverbs 27:17, NLT)

Jessica@Jessica Bunny LOL I like how Bryan coined this nickname (although I dunno how it came about)
sometimes blur like a sotong but it's a cute characteristic of yours
(trust me your blur is really CUTE no joke, it's a compliment!)
although you are not like the above two who can speak fluent Chinese with me
but I feel that somehow our frequencies are close enough
regardless whether it is the way we treat friends (I find that you are as 热情 as I am when it comes to getting along with new friends), or the greater topics about the world and society that we are concerned of
from AUS to ASEAN Power Shift, attending each other's performance and beyond
you are certainly one of my friends that I will wanna keep for long :)

AUS Malaysian Gang (Committee and Delegates)
Thanks to the whole committee for all those blood, sweat and tears for preparing the program, just for us!
And yeah, see you guys again when we ever have the chance to gather at KL!!!
Johnny: heard from others how hard you worked on this project under all those undesirable circumstances and unpredictable changes, really felt that you are a responsible leader who thinks from a big picture! I believe you will shine in the future! ^^ (heard that our senior ZheWen and SengChiy tortured you a lot? but glad that you survived under their claws HAHA)
Pashan: thanks for the ride to the mall during the first night bro! you are such a friendly guy, thanks for being part of the committee!!!
Dev: such funny guy, always pop up with some jokes HAHA
Laura(sorry忘了你的华文名是哪一个qingqing): 你是筹委团里唯一有参加的营员,所以觉得你比其他人多付出了一点努力,赞一个!
Austin: sorry!!!
ChongYi: hey hey... :D
Asheeq: hey! hope you are doing well so far in law school!!! was quite amazed that you are active in campus political activities and are concerned of those issues in your school! UKM definitely needs more this kind of people that are interested in the greater good! keep it up!
Shafiq: nice to have met you through this program, thanks for the ride for the mamak supper outing!!! find that you are an open-minded person and also friendly towards guests from foreign country, Malaysia definitely need more of your kind to promote out hospitality! all the best in your work life!
Finie: ahaha! sometimes feel that you are a bit blur but overall you are such a happy and active person! amazed that you are active in joining and volunteering for all sorts of activities in your uni and beyond. hope that you have gained much exposure through this activity and all the best for the rest of your uni life!

AUS UKM Trip NUS Gang (JinHui, Bryan, Joey, MeiLing, William)
HuiHui~ aiyo why you
Bryan@YanYan HAHAHA I like the way you call Jessica Bunny in such a natural way! When I first got to know you during the trip, I remember that you were always arguing with Aunty Lucy (and I was like: 有酱好argue 乜?) but nevertheless I think you are quite smart and at times funny (but sometimes with that damn sarcasm), and OMG you know 3 instruments???!!! (ok I lose liao...*meh*) hope that we will have more things/events in common next time so I can get to know you better!
Joey ah why you liddat always so high de? but thanks to you AUS was never boring, remembering the Mamak supper outing, and those gossips at night HAHA why cannot see you at school one ah? where have you been???!!!
MeiLing if i didn't remember wrongly, you were the one who got locked out cuz the key didn't work during the UKM trip? ah you were so quiet and we didn't have the chance to talk to each other a lot, but yeah hope that you are well in NUS so far ^^
William a very friendly, sincere and enthu Yr4 guy who no-matter-what came to UKM although it was already half-past the week, glad to have learned some philo stuffs from you, wish you all the best in your new phase of life!

Gilbert SO HAPPY to have another fellow Malaysian in AUS HAHA!!! but unfortunately you are the only one among us who doesn't know Chinese *too bad* at one moment I had an evil thought to type some funny things in this dedication in Chinese so you won't understand LOL but never mind! happy to have a friend that somehow evoke my arguing/thinking skills recently over some of our chats at those unplanned meals together, although sometimes I do think Law students always think too much LOL always find that you are friendly, and somehow your frequency is not that in-tune with the general population, but guess that's the thing which gives you the AURA HAHA wish you all the best dwelling in BTC, and yeah catch up sometimes dude!

YiFeng & my fellow groupmates (Joy, Finie, Meow, Jawa, Thang, Florence, Anton, Cassandra)
YiFeng: thanks for stepping up being our GL and being such a friendly, warm and caring person! guess all of our groupmates will agree that you are a good leader who can take care of all sorts of matter throughout the journey in the Sg leg! was kinda sad that you gave up psych for SEA studies but wells guess that's where your heart is! hope that with this knowledge you can contribute to our region in the future!
Joy: hey! nice to have known you through this event! I'm also happy to get one more friend who's also studying environmental-related things so we can have lots of common topic! find that you are a gentle and friendly person, hope to get along more when you are back! ^^
Cassandra: hey fellow NUS mate! haven't got to know you much, but overall feel that you are nice, and an important contributor for our group presentation! hope to meet up and catch up with you someday at school HAHA!
Meow: hello! Thanks for bringing your warmth and smile from Thailand! can see that you did your best to contribute when we prepared for the presentation, I appreciate the effort very much, think that you have learnt a lot throughout this process! hope to see you again if I travel to your place in Thailand ^^ 55555
Florence & Anton: Hi! I'm so happy to learn about Filipino culture from both of you, and I like to hear that how important is the concept of family in the Philippines that everyone has to set aside other things for the church and family on Sunday! Florence all the best for your future journey in the medical school, if it is already confirmed. And Anton, another RARE philosophy student that I have met haha! Thanks to the contribution for the presentation that both of you have made, really had a great time with y'all!!!
Jawa: hmm hello mr businessman! haha! oh glad to know that you were an exchange to NUS before! so you must have like this place a lot so you took the chance to come over once more HAHA! hope you are doing well for your final year! all the best!
Thang: thanks for teaching me how to say "leg pain" in Vietnamese when I was so tired and bored when we went out to Gardens by the Bay that day HAHA!!! such funny guy! thanks for creating the laughters with the other guys in our group!!!

The POWER People Behind AUS...
SengChiy: hmm...first impression? I dunno whether I mentioned it when the whole gang was having this chat, but I would say: you have the look of the-guy-next-door but when you start talking....OMG the POWER and AURA comes out HAHA! amazed by the speed and duration you can sustain when you are arguing or putting your ideas across (那种滔滔不绝哈哈哈) but the other side of you is SO HELL DIFFERENT from your professional image! (eg: the aunty Lucy style, guess you inherited your acting skill from your mum LOL, you should consider changing profession, you might be better than Michelle Chong LOL) anyway glad to have known you through this event, thanks for spearheading this idea and organizing the event! I really learnt a lot from it!
ZheWen: thanks for helping out the UKM leg planning, without you it would not have worked I guess, and all the behind-the-scene works with the organizing committee, glad to know another fellow Malaysian HAHA! and thanks for the help fetching me together with SengChiy when we head to UKM, and also the return bus ticket! heard from others that you are a good leader and I think so too!!! Hope that you are doing good so far in your work life!

post AUS environmental event: ASEAN Power Shift -- CuiMin RuiCi Falihah Jolene
thanks a lot to YinnShan for jio-ing me to this event! really learnt quite much through all the talks, workshops and dialogues! and we also had a great time planting shrubs too! HAHA
CuiMin: aww...soo nice to have met you through YinnShan ^^ really envy of both of you having such strong friendship even both of you finished sec and are now schooling in different unis...from what I see from your interaction with YS, you must be a warm and caring friend! hope to have more chance attending events together so I can get to know you more!
RuiCi: hey yo! enjoyed your doodles and duck comics a lot, and like how you put your ideas and random thoughts into pictures! ah must be nice studying in US, hope you are doing well for your final year! may we meet again in the same field working for the environment in the future ^^
Falihah: yups, although didn't talk to you a lot, but since you are a Po Scn student and attended such event, you must be very concerned of this kind of issues, glad to have another ally in the field, although you are taking another approach from us! all the best for your final year!!! :)
Jolene: hey fellow Malaysian! OMG such surprising news when I realized that you were one of Miss Earth Malaysia pageant! but guess the title fits you since you are an environmental science student! feel a lot for your dedication in this kind of work, hope your COP21 trip is fruitful! do share your experience with us ya!

Memoirs of 1st Asian Undergraduate Summit (Singapore Leg)

Check-in Day:
Was nice to meet all delegates from different countries
Formed a new group instead of staying in the old group from the first leg in UKM
Happy to see the old trip mates again, although we were assigned to different groups
But as I was still in TRIO Camp (jointly organized by SO, WS and JB)
I left for the open rehearsal after signing in and putting down my luggage at my designated room
While the other local students brought our guests out of the campus to explore
After the short briefing during dinner everyone was free to have their own time

Day 1:
The day arrived finally
With much expectation, since I had forsaken my about $500 income (giving up my job offer as Graduate Marshal in Commencement Ceremony) to take part in this programme
It turned out to be good
Which could be seen from the opening ceremony
(the super awesome committee managed to get sponsorship from Shell Companies Sg and the chairperson of the company came down for the opening ceremony)

After the opening there's the first talk, a keynote speech by Dr Phillip Andrews-Speed from Energy Studies Institute, introducing the concept of the nexus of various resources and calling us for action
There were also a few interesting facts he shared (which some of us might not have Googled before) worth noting down
Another new thing that I learnt from the AUS would be Futures Thinking, the tool for the strategy team behind decision makers to foresee circumstances that might happen around the scene
I was immediately drawn to this new idea and anticipated to attending the workshop in that afternoon

The workshop first introduced the first tool used in Futures Thinking, which is the STEEP framework.
STEEP consists of Social, Technological, Environmental, Economical and Political aspects that we need to consider when evaluating a scenario.
While drawing lots, my group got the title "Food in Thailand in 2030" which we needed to present on the final day of the summit, hence we started to throw out ideas written of sticky notes, the good thing of having people from different course of studies is that you will get ideas that you never thought of (or just that it was not that accessible in your mind)

Day 2:
This day was packed with information as well
Right after breakfast was a panel discussion with 3 experts from the field of resources security
It was quite informative, but unfortunately most of the content were not quite technical hence didn't get a lot from it, perhaps the speakers were aware that there were participants from different disciplines of studies so they just introduced the main concepts, anyway I still managed to get some interesting facts from it
The following focused group discussion was a bit not conducive as there was just too many people in the seminar room (about 30 people?), didn't get the chance to churn out a question to ask and didn't understand clearly other's questions posted to the speaker as well (I could say this is the most regretful part for me in the whole program)
Futures Thinking workshop continued from the point where we stopped on Day 1
We voted out the circumstances to be further discussed using Futures Wheel (a type of chart plotting out direct and indirect future consequences of a particular change or development)

After all academic programs and the brain straining discussions
Here comes the fun part of the program!!!
Visit to the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay!!!
Had been wanting to visit the magnificent indoor gardens all the time but never found a time to do so (and of course didn't really want to spend the money haha)
Thanks to the program I got to enter these domes for free!!!

And after that we walked from the Gardens along the trail passed the DNA bridge to the dinner site, The Singapore Food Trail under the Singapore Flyer

Day 3:
Today's presentation consists of two themes: the securities of food and water.
From the speakers, the knowledge about how vulnerable is Singapore in terms of these two resources was further clarified in my head, and also the government's efforts in ensuring the supply for all inhabitants on this island.
A dialogue with Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law followed after the short break.
It was an honour and a memorable experience to be there, listening to other participants' questions as well as seeing in personal, how a minister answered (or deflected) questions from the floor, although in some he did not address the questions in the way we expected.
(but some was not all his fault as some questions were not of his expertise)
Personally think that there were a few participants whom I can't name all, asked some questions which would (quite obvious) not be addressed in a satisfied manner from the asker's point of view, they should have done more homework at the first place, given that this kind of dialogues are hard to come by.
In the end I felt the it was more like a "monologue" among NUS students and Minister Shanmugam and not much exchange with the foreign participants, but wells...
After this was an excursion to NEWater, a good exposure to let foreign participants know about one of the water source in Singapore.
(it's the second time for me to come so I more or less knew what the presentation content would be like, but the games corner was quite fresh to me HAHA)

And next was the Marina Barrage
but we didn't go for kite flying but visited the Sustainable Singapore Gallery instead
we were showed the operation model of the barrages (really COOL!!!)

Day 4:
The invited speakers for the day were from Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore.
Though the first one looked as if it was not related to the theme of the program, but the speaker is the deputy director from Futures and Strategy Division, which relates to the Futures Thinking part of the leg.
The presentation is about the indivisible usage of IT softwares nowadays and how they influence the trade system. From B2C in the past until C2C today, online trading has changed everyone's life a lot. The speaker also prompted us to think in different directions about changes that could happen.
(just a side thought, FEW nexus is extremely related to trade and industry, so yeps i think this was the reason why this guy was invited)
As for the second speaker, he presented a brief view of Singapore's Clean Energy Strategy.
Due to the encouragement by the government, greentech startups and related companies are quite abundant in Singapore.
From the presentation I also got to know a few more career options and related companies that I could consider besides those (which was quite few) that I initially know.

Day 5&6:
Basically were all for preparations of the final presentation of future scenarios related to food, energy and water in 5 ASEAN countries where all foreign participants come from (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines).
Our group finalized the contents by the evening of Day 5 and we worked on the poster, slides and speech draft until quite late at night (thank God it's before 12am HAHA)
On the final day (Day 6), every group presented on their topics, and it was fun to see other groups came up with all sorts of styles and skits.
When the winners for the presentation were announced, it was a little disappointing to know that our group didn't make it to the Top3 (among 10 groups), but it was a fair game, others have presented better than we did.
The official program ended with the prize giving and the official closing ceremony, but the party began at dinner time YEAH
(basically was just buffet dinner, ice creams, photobooth and karaoke at the USP-Tembusu dining hall HAHA)

It was like a dream (wells I know this is a bit exaggerating) for being part of this very first budding Asian Undergraduate Summit which is a student-run event
It ended in the blink of an eye anyway, but there are memories and new friendships that I will cherish for a long time in my life.
For most up there was a general description of the program, another post will be written (soon! but I dunno when HAHA) for a close-up of my thoughts and feelings.
